Man agrees to plead guilty to federal hate crime charge for fight outside bar near OSU

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A man accepted a plea agreement for starting a fight with a group of Jewish students, federal court records show.

Timur Mamatov is set to plead guilty to the federal Hate Crimes Prevention Act. A statement of facts filed on July 3, included in the agreement, stated that the incident occurred on November 10, 2023, outside a campus bar located on North High Street, near Ohio State University.

Five OSU students left the bar in the early morning hours, and one of the group “yelled a comment” aimed at a nearby food-cart vendor. The documents do not say what was yelled, but Mamatov and his friend were nearby and approached the group, asking if they had yelled at the vendor…
