County fairs cannot ban firearms on the fairgrounds, Ohio AG rules

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio’s county fairs can’t stop visitors from bringing guns onto their grounds, according to a new opinion from Attorney General Dave Yost.

“The General Assembly found a need to provide uniform laws throughout the state,” Yost wrote. “That includes fairgrounds.”

In other words, fair boards can’t make their own rules about where guns are allowed because a 2006 law (R.C. 9.68) says only the state can regulate firearms…
