More than 9 million people have been warned to stay out of the water on Wednesday as large waves and strong currents made for dangerous conditions at multiple lakes across the Upper Midwest.

National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists issued beach hazards statements for people along Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania shorelines, including Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. More than 9 million people live in the warning areas, and in some cases, will face life-threatening conditions should they venture into the water.
