Law enforcement aims to keep Ohioans from driving high

CINCINNATI — This month marks one year since the start of recreational marijuana sales in Ohio, and law enforcement agencies are hard at work to keep impaired drivers off the roads.

It’s nothing new pulling over impaired drivers, but with marijuana now legal in Ohio, it’s become even more of a focus. Which is why the Ohio State Highway Patrol is trying something new.

“We’re pursuing it in a pilot program right now,” Captain Chris Kinn with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. “Ohio has made some changes in the law over the last few years that have allowed oral fluid to be a viable testing matrix, so we’re rolling it out slowly.”

The oral fluid test, which is not done roadside, but after an arrest and is then shipped to the crime lab, can test for several types of drugs and can be used in court…
