A little over a year after the market launched in Ohio, the state now has 162 recreational cannabis stores across 89 cities, according to an update from the Division of Cannabis Control.
Adult-use sales launched in August 2024 with fewer than 100 locations initially open. Since then, dozens of new outlets have been added, with existing medical dispensaries also gaining approval to sell to recreational customers. Columbus leads with 18 dispensaries, followed by Cincinnati with 14, Cleveland with 7 and Dayton with 5. Mid-sized cities like Canton, Monroe, Akron, Newark and Lorain also have multiple outlets, while smaller towns such as Mount Orab, Seven Mile and Loudonville now also have access to retail sales. The spread of dispensaries highlights how quickly the market has grown beyond the state’s largest metropolitan areas.
