FDA Advisory: Frozen raw shrimp from Walmart may be radioactive

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to eat certain frozen shrimp sold at Walmart stores across 11 states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania, due to possible radioactive contamination.

The FDA issued a public health advisory Tuesday for specific lots of Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, citing concerns that the product may have been prepared under unsanitary conditions and could be contaminated with Cesium-137, a man-made radioisotope.

The recall affects Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp with the following lot codes and best-by dates:

  • Lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
  • Lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
  • Lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
