Franklin County K9 team travels to aid Minneapolis after school shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Two Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Crisis K9s are heading to Minneapolis following a school shooting where two children were killed at a private Catholic school.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office after a shooter opened fire in a Catholic church during mass on Wednesday morning.

Hennepin County was requesting support from the FCSO Crisis K9 team for the community. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said K9s Scooby and Titus, along with their handlers and Sgt. Darrah Metz, who oversees the program, are headed to Minneapolis. The officers and K9s will provide comfort and assistance wherever needed.

Titus was featured in the FCSO video series, “On Duty With…” Thursday on their social media. The Australian Labradoodle works alongside his handler to provide support, especially for children, during traumatic situations. The post emphasizes Titus having a calming presence when working.

Scooby, also an Australian Labradoodle, began training as a therapy dog in October of 2024. Both K9s were officially sworn in last month. The sheriff’s office said the team is focused on its mission and will not be available for comment at this time…
