COLUMBUS, Ohio — Starting this fall, getting a driver’s license in Ohio will come with new rules for young adults.
Come the end of September, anyone under the age of 21 will have to complete the same driver education program long required of 16- and 17-year-olds. The change was written into Ohio’s most recent state budget.
According to the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, individuals ages 18, 19 and 20 will be required to complete a state-approved “Class-D” driver training course. The course would require 24 hours of in-person or online instruction and eight hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor.
