DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A bill introduced in the Ohio House of Representatives could potentially allow utility companies to remotely control your thermostat.
Ohio House Bill 427 would aim to give companies the ability to access their customers’ energy consumption during peak usage. Items like the temperature of your air conditioner, thermostat and cycle your water heater could be changed by the provider.
Customers would have an option to participate in a demand response program, which would limit the energy usage of the customer during a heavy strain on the grid. Credit could be sent back to customers who would have their energy usage reduced from participating utility companies…
