Accused rapist held without bond after assaulting woman in downtown apartment

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The suspect accused of posing as a maintenance worker to enter a woman’s apartment before a violent attack pled not guilty to the charges against him.

Philip Daniels, 35, is being held without bond on charges of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated burglary after an alleged sexual assault at The Normandy apartments at 295 East Long Street on October 2.

Charging documents say Daniels pretended to be a maintenance worker and told a woman he was there to fix a water leak. The victim told police she received an email from the apartment complex stating there was a water leak to fix just minutes before Daniel arrived at her front door. The victim told police after she opened the door to speak to him, she says he forced it open and came inside. The documents go on to detail a brutal rape and say the man forced her into sexual acts while threatening to kill her. The man took off with the victim’s jewelry and credit cards…
