COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTRF) — Ohio lawmakers are moving forward with a proposal to raise the state’s legal THC limit for drivers, a change supporters say could help prevent unfair OVI charges for marijuana users who are not actually impaired.
The measure, Senate Bill 55, would update how the state determines marijuana-related impairment in both driving and boating cases. It raises the legal threshold for tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis, from 2 nanograms to 5 nanograms per milliliter of blood.
Lawmakers behind the bill argue that Ohio’s current limit is outdated and too strict, especially as more states legalize medical and recreational marijuana.
