State rep urges DeWine to help stop possible SNAP cuts in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — State Rep. Latyna Humphrey (D-Columbus) has urged Gov. Mike DeWine to take immediate action to prevent disruptions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program payments for 1.4 million Ohioans if the federal government shutdown continues past Oct. 31.

In a letter to the governor, Humphrey pointed to Louisiana’s decision to allocate $150 million per month in state funds to maintain SNAP benefits and called for similar leadership in Ohio.

Her proposals include emergency appropriations through the Controlling Board, temporary transfers from agency reserves, partnerships with food banks and nonprofits, and an emergency order authorizing temporary relief until federal funding resumes…
