COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man who claimed self-defense in the fatal shooting of his roommate received his sentence Wednesday and could spend the rest of his life in prison.
A Franklin County jury and judge rejected 39-year-old Brian Sias’ assertion that he shot and killed William Applegate in self-defense. A guilty verdict was rendered in August, leading to this week’s sentence, which also included a failed motion to dismiss.

Sias was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 21 years. He was found guilty of two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault, all with firearm specifications.
