Deadly Columbus home invasion committed by father-son duo results in multi-year sentence

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man charged as part of an alleged home invasion resulting in the death of his father and one other person, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to one of four charges.

According to court documents, Reginald M. Purnell, initially charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary, and having weapons under disability.

The charges stem from a June 2024 home invasion in which two people were shot and killed, including Purnell’s father, Reginald P. Purnell. Court documents noted that the father-son duo, along with another man, went to a home on Seymour Avenue in Deshler Park, with the intent to commit a robbery.

Police said cell phone data, video, and text messages confirmed the Purnells went to the home and that at approximately 10:45 a.m., Darrell Walker, 45, along with Reginald P. Purnell, 48, were shot and killed. Within minutes of arriving at the scene, the coroner’s office said medics pronounced both men dead.
