East side apartment complex to begin asbestos abatement

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — After years of sitting vacant due to unsafe living conditions, the Latitude Five25 apartment complex on Columbus’ near east side is one step closer toward redevelopment.

During a community engagement session Thursday night, crews gave neighbors a closer look at the asbestos abatement process that will pave the way for new housing there. It’s expected to begin in early December and is slated to take about five months with demolition beginning right after.

“We will have to go in and seal up the building initially with all the windows, doors, all the openings,” Ohio Technical Services president Brian Hatfield said.
