COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reported 11 deaths from eight fatal crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday reporting period. The data covers the period from midnight on Wednesday, November 26 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 30.
Preliminary reports show that at least two of the fatal crashes involved impaired drivers. During the five-day period, OSHP troopers made 281 impaired driving arrests and issued 38 citations related to drug offenses.
Of the fatalities where seat belts were available, three victims were not wearing one. Although Ohio law considers seat belt use a secondary violation, troopers enforced zero tolerance during traffic stops, issuing 462 safety belt citations during the reporting period…
