Electric bill frustration? Public hearings to begin on AEP rate hike

Central Ohio residents have a chance to make their voices heard about their rising electric bills in upcoming public hearings about a proposed American Electric Power Ohio rate increase.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) is hosting the hearings across the state for AEP Ohio customers as they consider approving a rate increase for the electric power company, which reported record profits in 2025.

On May 30, AEP Ohio requested a rate increase affecting the distribution or “delivery” of electricity to consumers by 2.14%, a roughly $4 monthly, $50 annual increase for customers.
