COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after a crash involving a police cruiser early Sunday morning in a west Columbus neighborhood.

Columbus police said officers were driving towards a burglary in progress at 2:50 a.m. in Franklinton. The cruiser was going east on West Broad Street towards Central Avenue with its sirens and lights on. A Chevrolet was going north on Central Avenue at the same time and the vehicles crashed into each other.
The driver of the Chevrolet, which police identified as an adult, was pronounced dead at a hospital while the officer driving the cruiser and is recovering in the hospital.
