All about 5 new Ohio laws, changes going into effect in January

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WJW) — A few new Ohio laws are going into effect starting in January, including a law about cell phone use in public schools and also a statewide Communication Disability Database.

Here’s a look at the soon-to-be official changes, as signed by Gov. Mike DeWine in 2025 or as stated in the Ohio Constitution:

Minimum wage increase

Ohio’s minimum wage is going up starting Jan. 1. Those who are not tipped are soon going to make $11 per hour and those who are tipped will make $5.50 per hour.

This is taking place in accordance with the constitutional amendment that voters approved in 2006, which increases minimum wage each year according to the rate of inflation. The 2026 increase is 2.8% over 2025’s minimum wage…
