Columbus man sentenced for role in ‘Third World Mob’ drug-trafficking street gang

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A member of a violent street gang will spend nearly two decades behind bars.

Teddy Asefa, 37, of Columbus, was sentenced Tuesday to 17 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to drug trafficking and wire fraud, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Ohio’s office said. Asefa also defrauded the government of at least $16,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

Asefa was part of the leadership of the Third World Mob (3WM) street gang responsible for trafficking more than 1,000 kilograms — more than one ton — of marijuana over seven years, the attorney’s office said. In total, the gang netted more than $94 million from the smuggling between 2015 and October 2022…
