COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Top Columbus officials, including the mayor and police chief, reiterated their support of immigrants as federal immigration agents allegedly arrested several people within city limits Thursday.
“We understand that many of our neighbors may feel concerned for their safety,” Mayor Andrew Ginther said. “Please know that we stand with you and everyone who calls Columbus home.”

Ginther reassured residents that city resources will not be used to aid in federal immigration efforts. Chief Elaine Bryant said Columbus police officers are not involved in ICE operations; residents will not be investigated based solely on immigration status, but only if there’s evidence of a crime.
“We cannot prevent ICE from being here, but if there is illegal or dangerous conduct, CPD officers will be present to maintain public safety,” Bryant said…
