New year brings higher vehicle registration and title fees in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio drivers will pay more to register their vehicles and obtain titles starting this week. Under House Bill 96, the annual registration fee for a standard passenger car has increased from $11 to $16. This is the first time in several years that the state has adjusted these specific costs for all motorists.

In addition to the registration hike, the service fee paid to deputy registrars for processing paperwork rose from $5 to $8. This means the total cost for a basic yearly renewal will be $8 higher than in 2025. The cost to obtain a vehicle title also increased from $15 to $18.
