Docs: Ohio man scammed elderly homeowners out of thousands of dollars

WXIN/WTTV — A recent case involving contractor fraud carries a good reminder about protecting yourself when hiring somebody to work on your property.

Last year, police in Parke County investigated David Broadway, of Millbury, Ohio, for allegedly scamming an 84-year old Rockville woman out of $3,800. Through their investigation, police determined Broadway was making his living by traveling from town to town, approaching senior citizens and offering to repair their driveways.

Detectives learned Broadway was diluting his paving materials with gasoline in order to stretch them further. In essence, he was charging double the industry standard for the work, while leaving a crumbling mess behind.

Parke County investigators quickly learned that Broadway had allegedly scammed an Avon woman out of $2,500. He also had outstanding warrants in Ohio and Pennsylvania…
