Columbus, Ohio – A rare East Coast earthquake early Tuesday struck central Ohio, briefly rattling communities in and around Madison County and reminding residents that seismic activity, while uncommon, is part of the state’s risk profile. The magnitude 2.6 earthquake occurred overnight, making Ohio the focal point of a regional seismic event that drew attention across much of the eastern United States.
