Family of Amya Frazier seeks law change after shooting death

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A month after 11-year-old Amya Frazier died in what police called a “non-intentional shooting between family members,” her family is trying to turn their tragedy into change.

Frazier was shot Dec. 5 and later died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, according to officials. Her 14-year-old cousin faces a reckless homicide charge in connection to her death. His father, Matthew Seymour, was also indicted on involuntary manslaughter and endangering children.

Frazier’s family talked with 10TV on Wednesday about what they want to come from her death. They have started a petition to push for what they’re calling “Amya’s Law.” What they want it to encompass are stronger safe-storage laws for firearms and also harsher penalties for gun owners who fail to comply…
