CLEVELAND (WJW) — Nearly 39,000 gallons of bottled water have been voluntarily recalled by Meijer, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforcement report from last week.
The move comes after a “floating black foreign substance” was found in certain gallon-size jugs of distilled water with red caps, the FDA reported, but was not more specific how the substance could be harmful.

The affected water is labeled as Meijer Steam Distilled Water with a lot code of 39-222 #3 and a UPC code of 041250841197. The best by date on the water should say Oct. 4, 2026. The item code for the product is 477910.
The water was sold in six states, including in Ohio, and affected 38,043 gallons.
Distilled water, which lacks beneficial minerals, is often used for certain medical devices and sinus rinses.
