Semi-truck driver released after serving sentence for Tusky Valley crash that killed 6

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The semi-truck driver who killed six people in a fiery crash involving a school charter bus and another vehicle in 2023 was released from jail on Saturday.

Jacob McDonald was convicted of six counts of vehicular homicide last year, and sentenced to 18 months in jail. The sentence also included a credit of more than 300 days of time already served, meaning that by the time he received his sentence last June, he only had to serve about seven more months in custody.

Last year’s closely-watched trial was a bench trial, meaning there was no jury. Judge David Branstool presided over the case in Licking County, and ruled against the prosecution’s request to charge McDonald with aggravated vehicular homicide.
