Recalled tuna accidently shipped to stores in Ohio: FDA

(WJW) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers that previously recalled canned tuna was recently shipped to retail stores in several states, including Ohio.

According to the new recall alert, Tri-Union Seafoods is cautioning consumers that a third-party distributor “inadvertently” shipped quarantined canned tuna that was associated with a previous recall in February 2025.

Officials said the initial recall was issued after the company learned that some of the product’s “easy open” pull tab lid was defected and could cause the cans to leak, “or worse, be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.”

According to the FDA, the impacted products were distributed to retail stores as follows:

  • Meijer – Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin
  • Giant Foods – Maryland and Virginia
  • Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions – California

Recalled products include specific can codes and Best if Used By dates indicated on the bottom of the cans, and UPC numbers listed below:

Consumers are advised to not use the product “even if it does not look or smell spoiled” and anyone feeling unwell are advised to seek “immediate medical attention.”…
