Major winter storm likely to impact Ohio in coming days

OHIO — We’re monitoring the potential for a major winter storm that could impact a large part of the United States, including Ohio, as we head into the weekend.

What You Need To Know

  • In addition to snow, dangerous cold will move into the region
  • We’re about three days away from a storm that will impact much of the U.S., including Ohio
  • Starting late Saturday and continuing through Sunday, much of Ohio is expected to get moderate to heavy snowfall

A large part of Ohio will likely get moderate to heavy snowfall beginning late Saturday and continuing through Sunday. While it is too early to give specific accumulation forecasts (we will get a better idea on this Thursday), it does appear significant amounts of snow could fall in the areas highlighted in yellow on this map.

That includes much of central, southern & eastern Ohio where amounts could top five to 10 inches or more. There could be spots with amounts near a foot depending on how this storm tracks and on the air temperature during the snow. The colder it is, the greater the risk of a higher liquid to snow ratio. That means snow could “fluff up” more and provide a deeper snowpack.

Over the next two days, prepare for an impactful winter storm where roads may become impossible at times. While wind gusts don’t look to get too high (generally staying under 25 mph) there could be some blowing and drifting of snow and perhaps sporadic power outages. While any heavy snow should shift out by Monday morning, impacts from the snow will likely last into early next week…
