More than 200 antlers forfeited in yearslong Ohio investigation: Ohio Division of Wildlife

HARROD, Ohio (WJW) – An Ohio hunter faces penalties and jail time after a yearslong investigation that officials said led to the forfeiture of hundreds of deer antlers.

According to the Ohio Division of Wildlife, Steven Niese, of Harrod in Allen County, was found guilty of three counts of possession of untagged deer parts and three counts of falsifying information when game checking a deer.

The investigation started in January 2023, when an informant told officers that “something just seemed strange” after Niese’s son supposedly shot a large buck.

“The caller thought Mr. Niese had shot the buck instead of his son, and they were right,” the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

Through the investigation, officers issued a search warrant. According to the Ohio Division of Wildlife, 164 sawed-off antlers, 58 antlered deer skulls, two shoulder mounts and 11 antlers on broken skull caps were forfeited to law enforcement.
