Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana rank low for raising families

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Ohio ranked outside the top 20, while Kentucky and Indiana were outside the top half of states in WalletHub’s annual list of the best places to raise a family.

Ohio was No. 21, followed by Indiana at No. 31 and Kentucky at No. 38. The rankings from the personal finance website evaluate all 50 states based on 50 factors including median family income, housing affordability, education, safety and overall cost of living.

“Raising a family has become significantly more expensive in recent years as the cost of living has risen quickly,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said. “In fact, it can cost a family as much as $320,000 to raise a child to age 18, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In light of the expensive nature of being a parent and the responsibility it entails, it’s important to live in a city that is affordable while still providing quality health care, education, safety and opportunities for enrichment.”…
