Cannabis could return to Ohio’s ballot – if a group can get enough signatures, quickly: The Wake Up for Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026

If you want to legally drink a THC beverage in Ohio, you have until March 20. That’s when Senate Bill 56 takes effect, banning all intoxicating hemp products and narrowing the state’s voter-approved marijuana law. Starting then, residents won’t be able to bring marijuana from another state (say, Michigan) into Ohio.

A group called Ohioans for Cannabis Choice wants to repeal much of the law. It now has the go-ahead to start collecting about 250,000 signatures from half of Ohio’s 88 counties in order to put the issue on the ballot. But it has only until the law takes effect.

The group says it supports testing protocols, age-gating products for those only over 21, proper licensing, and a framework that keeps access while allowing for proper regulation for a successful state model that others will look to follow. But it doesn’t want to eliminate the substance…
