In a post on the Columbus Division of Police’s social media page, an account was detailed of how a routine traffic stop escalated into a multi-zone chase, culminating in an arrest—thanks to a little help from above. On January 29, officers on the ground were outmaneuvered by a suspect in a stolen vehicle who fled a traffic stop. It was then that the Division’s helicopter was called into action to take the pursuit to the skies.
The aerial unit tracked the suspect as the vehicle weaved through three different zones, a pursuit that spanned several miles and required coordination among multiple personnel. According to the Columbus Division of Police, the suspect eventually ditched the car and tried to vanish between buildings on foot.
