Former Franklin County Jail Deputy Sentenced To Prison After Allowing Assault Of Inmate

A former deputy sheriff from Franklin County was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to violating an inmate’s civil rights.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Matthew Carey, a former deputy, was sentenced to nearly four years (46 months) in prison for depriving an inmate of his civil rights.

According to court documents, Carey purposefully revealed a pretrial detainee’s pending charge of rape of a minor to another pretrial detainee, Gmier McCall.
