Man arrested on gun, drug charges at Columbus taco shop federally sentenced

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man accused of opening fire outside of a Columbus restaurant was found guilty in federal court on all charges.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, Abel Velasquez-Avedeco, was found guilty of illegally possessing a firearm and drug possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine.

The incident occurred outside the Taco Nice restaurant on West Broad Street in the Lincoln Village area, where Velasquez-Avedeco was reportedly involved in an argument with another person inside the taco shop. Court documents stated that he then began firing a gun multiple times in the air from a vehicle while driving near the restaurant.

A security guard at the restaurant told a Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy that the suspect, who was known as “Gordo”, drove away in a tan Honda Civic while firing a weapon, and multiple shell casings were found in the area…
