Little-known tax credit lets Ohioans cut their tax bill while helping private schools

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio has forgone over $80 million in revenue, and counting, since the beginning of a program that gives people a tax benefit for private school donations – another layer of public funding for school choice.

Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) are nonprofits to which people donate money and receive an income tax credit in return. These organizations provide tuition scholarships for students from medium- and lower-income families who attend private schools.

Ohioans may better know SGOs by their local names…
