Disposal of ‘military-grade ammunition’ results in loud booms heard in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Columbus Division of Fire Bomb Squad assisted in disposing of “outdated military-grade ammunition” Friday night, resulting in loud booms heard in Columbus.

The fire department, working with personnel from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, responded to a facility in Knox County after a new property owner discovered the ammunition and requested assistance, according to a news release.

Shortly before midnight, trained bomb squad technicians carried out a controlled disposal, according to the Columbus Division of Fire. Around the same time, numerous residents posted on social media about hearing loud “boom” noises.
