Ohio State faculty member who struck cameraman facing assault charge

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An Ohio State University faculty member is facing a charge of assault after striking an independent journalist who was attempting an on-campus interview, according to a university spokesperson.

OSU chief spokesperson Ben Johnson said that assistant professor Luke Perez has been served a summons for assault. The charge comes after Perez was recorded knocking camera equipment out of OSU alumnus Mike Newman’s hands.

Newman was attempting to interview former university president Gordon Gee in the hallway of the Chase Center for Civics, Culture and Society.
