Ex-Columbus apartment manager accused of renting dilapidated units to 1,300 Haitians

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A grand jury indicted a former Colonial Village Apartment complex property manager on multiple charges in connection with vacant apartments in disrepair rented to hundreds of Haitian immigrants.

Sylvia Sherman, 43, of Reynoldsburg, faces charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, telecommunications fraud, theft, and money laundering.

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that she rented dilapidated apartments that were listed as vacant to approximately 1,300 Haitian immigrants who were in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status (TPS)…
