House fire survivor running low on insurance funds, could be left homeless

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Last September, Bernie Jackson woke up in the middle of the night to his Justin Road home filled with smoke. His roommate had accidentally started a fire with a cigarette, forcing Jackson to act quickly.

“I picked him up, got him out and closed the door behind me, and I dialed 911,” Jackson recalled. He survived, but nearly everything he owned was destroyed.

After the fire, Jackson turned to his insurance company, Allstate, to begin the claims process. The company provided $25,000 for temporary housing while repairs were underway…
