Steelhead, walleye pour in with wet weather: NE Ohio fishing report

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Much-needed rain and some possible thunderstorms are in the forecast for this weekend, and river and stream steelhead trout and walleye anglers are welcoming the wet weather and the advent of spring.

The rising river levels will urge Lake Erie steelhead trout to make spawning runs in the Northeast Ohio rivers and streams. Out west, walleye fishermen prowl the Sandusky and Maumee rivers, hoping for schools of walleye to arrive soon from Lake Erie to spawn in those traditional waterways.

The big schools of walleye are just starting to make an appearance in the western rivers. Thursday’s showers were already nudging steelhead trout to satisfy wading anglers, but thunderstorms could muddy the waters a bit before the weekend is over…
