FirstEnergy Transmission chosen by PJM Interconnection for major grid upgrades

FirstEnergy Transmission LLC (FET) has been chosen by PJM Interconnection LLC to undertake a series of projects aimed at improving the reliability and capacity of the electric grid in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The company plans to invest about $950 million in upgrading equipment, rebuilding older lines, and enhancing substations. Some initiatives will be managed through Grid Growth Ventures LLC, a joint venture with Transource Energy LLC, while others will be implemented directly by FET subsidiaries American Transmission Systems Incorporated (ATSI) and Mid-Atlantic Interstate Transmission LLC (MAIT).

These projects were submitted as part of PJM’s 2025 Regional Transmission Expansion Plan open window process and received approval from the PJM Board of Managers on February 12. PJM is responsible for coordinating electricity movement across a 13-state region that includes FirstEnergy’s service areas.
