I-270 Horror Near Obetz as Late-Night Ride Turns Deadly

A late Sunday night ride on Interstate 270 near Obetz ended in tragedy when the rider of a Kawasaki motorcycle came off the bike and was killed, according to investigators who have not yet said what caused the fall. A second motorcyclist, riding a Yamaha, stopped along the shoulder and was taken to Grant Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening. First responders from Obetz and Hamilton Township, along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, handled the scene while investigators examined the area.

Around 11 p.m., the two riders were headed westbound on I-270 when the Kawasaki rider “came off” the motorcycle and the Yamaha rider pulled over. As reported by WSYX/CW Columbus, the Kawasaki rider was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Yamaha rider was transported to Grant Medical Center.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and is gathering information from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash.
