Columbus police officer terminated from employment after strangulation arrest

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A Columbus police officer accused of choking his live-in girlfriend was terminated from employment.

Jacob Smith was recently charged with strangulation and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor-permit premises. Investigators said the alleged assault happened after heavy drinking in the Polaris area.

His bond was set at $225,000, and his trial was scheduled for May 14…
