Ohio day cares collected $1.1M in overpayments, many haven’t paid it back

Ohio overpaid publicly funded day cares by $1.1 million in 2025, including 19 centers in Franklin County alone.

The state documented overpayments to 61 childcare centers based on inaccurate attendance reporting in 2025, according to records obtained from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth. The largest overpayment of $204,000 went to a now-shuttered facility on Columbus’ West Side.
