Columbus police seek suspects in ‘distraction burglary’ involving fake tree removals

Detectives with the Columbus Division of Police Property Crimes Bureau are warning residents of a “distraction burglary” after a local homeowner was targeted by thieves posing as tree service workers.

According to police reports, a male suspect wearing a high-visibility safety vest knocked on the victim’s door, claiming he was there to cut down trees in the backyard. While the suspect led the victim outside to discuss the work, a second individual entered the home undetected.

Once inside, the second suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry before both individuals fled the scene…
