Police chief urges Dublin schools to avoid high-risk travel routes in redistricting

DUBLIN, Ohio (WCMH) — Shawnee Hills Police Chief Russell Barton is bringing concerns to Dublin schools about possible student safety issues as the district starts fresh with its redistricting plans.

Dublin City Schools reopened the conversation surrounding redistricting this week, listening to community feedback Monday night. The initial process was paused in fall 2025 after pushback from parents. No plans or timeline has been finished, but Barton said he is concerned by the potential that students may have to travel along Glick Road and Riverside Drive. “I want to be clear, this position is not personal,” Barton wrote in a letter to the district. “I do not have children in Dublin City Schools. This is a professional assessment grounded in roadway conditions, crash patterns, and the very real risks associated with increasing student travel through these corridors.”

The district said redistricting is needed to address overcrowding, hoping to balance enrollment across Dublin’s three high schools as the district’s population grows.
