Man, woman sentenced for shooting deaths of 2 people during vigil in east Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people were sentenced to multiple years in prison for their roles in a 2024 shooting that killed two people during a vigil at an east Columbus park.

Tyrez Turner entered an Alford plea in Franklin County court last month in connection to the June 3, 2024, shooting at Krumm Park. An Alford plea allows a defendant to plead guilty while maintaining innocence. Ladavia Fortner was charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

The shooting happened during a vigil for 18-year-old Da’Mya Cummerlander, who had been killed the day before. Cummerlander was the niece of a man currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for the death of Turner’s mother…
