MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WJW) — That’s one big fish! Jesse Miller of Middletown recently caught a fish so large, it broke an Ohio record, the state’s Department of Wildlife announced Friday.
The hybrid crappie, which came in at 4.27 pounds, was reportedly the first entry in the state’s record category for the fish.

The fish, measured at a length of 18.3 inches and a 16-inch girth, was caught on the Great Miami River near the near the Middletown Dam on April 1 (no joke). Miller told ODOW that he caught the crappie by employing a “spinning rod spooled with six pound test monofilament line.”
The department said two fisheries biologists confirmed the fish was indeed a hybrid fish and they noted, “hybrids are not unusual in water containing both species.”…
