Calimesa advances 313-acre annexation proposal

The Calimesa Planning Commission unanimously recommended annexing more than 313 acres of unincorporated Riverside County land into the city June 22, advancing a proposal officials say would bring two existing warehouse properties under city jurisdiction.

The recommendation, which now heads to the City Council before ultimately requiring approval from the Riverside Local Agency Formation Commission, drew concerns from Cherry Valley residents and the Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District over future development, water service and preserving the area’s rural character.

City staff repeatedly emphasized that the proposal is an administrative boundary adjustment rather than a development project. “Existing development is to remain unchanged and no new development is proposed as part of this proposal,” Community Development Director Kelly Lucia said to commissioners…
